Dr. Anita Zaidi Reflects on the Legacy of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV and the Impact of Aga Khan University

Dr. Anita Zaidi, President of the Gender Equality Division at the Gates Foundation and former Professor at Aga Khan University, shared a heartfelt tribute to His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV following his passing on February 4th, 2025. She highlighted his transformative leadership since becoming the 49th Ismaili Imam in 1957, which spanned continents and profoundly shaped her own life.

As a member of the first class at Aga Khan University Medical College in 1983, Dr. Zaidi credited her education there with instilling a commitment to addressing the needs of the world’s most vulnerable. She expressed deep gratitude for His Highness’ vision and leadership, which continues to inspire her work today. Dr. Zaidi also extended her best wishes to Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini as he assumes the role of Imam, carrying forward his father’s legacy of creating a brighter future.

Dr. Anita Zaidi is the current President of Gender Equality Division at Gates Foundation. Previously, a Professor of Paediatrics and Child Health at the Aga Khan University.
