President of the Republic regrets the death of Prince Aga Khan

The President of the Republic expresses his deep regret at the death of His Highness Prince Aga Khan.

Prince Karim Al-Husseini, whom President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa had the honour of knowing well, was a good friend of Portugal. He left his mark on his life by his tireless work to promote human dignity and protect the most disadvantaged. Under his leadership, the Aga Khan Development Network has carried out extraordinary and multifaceted work, making a fundamental contribution to global human development for decades, bringing tangible improvements to the social conditions of thousands upon thousands of people on several continents.

His Highness the Aga Khan also established himself as a notable figure of faith open to the world, under the sign of tolerance and profound respect for others, and his work in supporting culture, the arts and education was equally notable.

With the agreement to establish the seat of the Ismaili Imamat in Portugal in 2015, the already close relationship with the Ismaili community deepened, to the benefit of Portuguese society and the increasingly successful integration of that community in Portugal. The Diamond Jubilee in 2018 was unforgettable, bringing around 50,000 faithful to Lisbon, at which the President of the Portuguese Republic spoke.

The President of the Republic presents his heartfelt and very friendly condolences to the Ismaili Muslims and to all those who feel inspired by the figure of Prince Aga Khan.

Editor’s note:

While every effort is made in trying to remain true to the original author of all articles we bring to our audiences at Ismailimail, much gets lost in translating the original piece from one language to another. The choice of words, the expression of feelings, the historical and cultural norms, semantics, the author, all these and many other factors get diluted and/or lost, even with the aid and convenience of the all powerful tool like Google translate.

Reading it to learn, internalizing it to understand, and translating it to share was a humble experience of the heart with the mind.

It is our hope that you were inspired by the impact that His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV had in Portugal and around the world.
