Shumaila Hemani’s poem, Living with Purpose, was nominated for Alberta Magazine Awards in Poetry in 2022. Hemani’s poem was published in Alberta’s literary magazine, New Forum in 2021 and was jointly nominated by the board for this honor.
Shumaila Hemani has a Ph.D. in Music (Ethnomusicology) from the University of Alberta, Canada, and studied Sufi poetry and sounds with Prof. Regula Burckhardt Qureshi. You can also watch the performance of the poem’s first three verses that were recorded in Toronto and stood #1 on Ethnocloud’s Asian Music, and World Music Charts in 2020-21. Living with Purpose was also featured in the CBC Toyota Searchlight (2021).
