As the interaction between the Public Art Gallery as the site of engagement with the digital technologies increases, it’s time to face the challenge and innovate. At the recently held Ideas Digital Forum at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Oshawa, Zainub Verjee delivered the opening note to initiate the discussions on the interaction between digital technologies, art and art galleries.

Highlighting the state of the field, she offered some answers to questions such as “what is the history and impact of art-science-technology?”, “What are the imperatives of the technology to the future of Art gallery as a site of exhibition and collection?”, “How do we account, speak and write about Art in Digital Culture?”. She also highlighted why it was important to keep pace with the Public Art Gallery sector’s needs.

Multiple reports have drawn attention to the impact of digital technologies have had on the Public Art Galleries, underlining its biggest challenges, goals, and hopes. In this fast changing ecosystem of Public Art Galleries, the senior leadership of these Art Galleries, Funding Agencies, Artists, and Curators are truly focused on one thing: the effective use of digital technology that helps create, engage, deliver on the core business of public art galleries.
