In association with Rizwan Adatia Foundation, Martha Farrell Award for Excellence in Women’s Empowerment announced.
Nadiya Shafi and Resource and Support Centre for Development declared as the winners of the 2nd Martha Farrell Award at the award ceremony on April 25, 2018.
Instituted in the memory of Dr. Martha Farrell, a prominent activist for gender equality and women’s empowerment, the award is co-sponsored by Rizwan Adatia Foundation (RAF) and Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA), and supported by Martha Farrell Foundation (MFF).
Martha was killed in Kabul in a terrorist attack in 2015, while leading a gender training workshop for the Aga Khan Foundation. The ‘best organisation for gender equality’ award, also instituted in Martha’s memory, went to Maharashtra-based Resource and Support Centre for Development (RSCD) for sustained efforts towards promoting inclusion of women in political processes across 30 districts of Maharashtra.

The Martha Farrell Award for Excellence in Women’s Empowerment has been instituted to honour Dr. Farrell and her ideals. Launched in October 2016, it is a first-of-its-kind initiative to discover, recognise and honour mid-career individuals and committed institutions, which have made valuable contributions in the areas of women’s empowerment, gender equality or feminism in everyday life.
Rizwan Adatia Foundation (RAF) strives to achieve the improvement in Quality of Life (QoL) of poor and marginalised communities in Asia and Africa through interventions in the areas of health, education, income generation, livelihoods.
