And while reading out the Aga Khan’s name, the chairman of the awards committee General Elly Tumwine noted that the Aga Khan has been involved in development work for the last 60 years, and has played a key role in providing jobs to Ugandans.
His Highness the Aga Khan Prince Shah Karim Al Hussaini the 49th hereditary spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims has been honoured with the “Most Excellent Order of the Pearl of Africa” medal.
The medal, according to the National Honours and Awards Act, 2001, is given to Heads of State and Heads of Government and was bestowed upon the AgaKhan by President Yoweri Museveni in Bushenyi during celebrations to mark 55 years of independence.
