Sameer is studying Social Development and Policy at Habib University, Karachi, and as a part of learn abroad program, he is attending the University of California Berkeley Summer Session in Berkeley. Due to his past academic and extracurricular achievements, Sameer has received full scholarship grant to travel to the US and attend the summer semester. Sameer has taken two courses there. One is “Sociology of American Cultures” while the second course is “Technology vs. Psychology: The Internet Revolution and the Rise of the Virtual Self”.
Habib University has partnered with the University of California at Berkeley (UC Berkeley), to send students for a summer study abroad session to one of the world’s most distinguished institutions of higher education, known for its academic and research excellence. What really excites Sameer about UC Berkeley is its socially vibrant campus. Students and citizens are well aware of their rights and are active enough to protest against suppression. “I want to be a political activist, and my struggle is to organize student unions in my home country. UC Berkeley has provided me an active environment to learn and explore more about my goals”. Apart from exploring the academics, Sameer is also interning at YWCA Berkeley, where he is working for the anti-trafficking advocacy program. His main job is to do street outreach in downtown Berkeley and organize awareness campaigns about trafficking in the US.
Sameer is also active in his religious education center. He is an academic member of his REC management and has taught history to higher religious education students for three years. Sameer wants to work in development sectors where his major interest lies in policy analysis.
