The information below related to this event was conveyed by me to my family and friends on March 21, 2017:
Meet Canada’s newest citizens. 50 individuals from 27 countries took the oath at Toronto’s Ismaili Centre,
organized by Institute for Canadian Citizenship. Farah Nasser spoke to them about their journey:
“The above solemn ceremony took place at the elegant Ismaili Centre in Toronto on Thursday, 23rd February 2017. Farah Nasser originally from Mississauga spoke to the New Canadian Citizens about their journey and this was covered in the Global News. Interesting to note that these new 50 Canadian Citizens came from 27 different countries. A truly pluralistic country.
This also reminds me of a similar ceremony held over 30 years ago in Mississauga and hosted by the local Ismaili Muslim Community of Mississauga. Judge Kamal Akbarali presided at the ceremony. Leaders of the community and myself (as then Minister of Religion of the Ismaili Muslim Community of Mississauga) attended and I had the honor of addressing the new Canadian Citizens. I also believe that this was the first of many such ceremonies that have since been hosted by the community.
