New Poetry Collection by Alnoor Rajan Talwar, launched on World Peace Day, September 21, 2016
Note From the Author:
Life takes us on journeys I like to call dances.
As human beings, we are in a constant state of emotional limbo sometimes so completely engrossed in our own lives, that we become oblivious to the hate, death, illness, war, greed and materialism around us.
We often end up ignoring the simple yet important human values of love, peace, acceptance, tolerance and forgiveness.
Our ties of love are easily severed as are the bonds we share with the rest of humanity.
This collection of poetry represents a cry against the decline of inherent human values. It is an uprising from the heart of humanity to cherish, love and respect each other and oneself despite grievances and to forgive, accept and carry on despite difficulties, thus promoting inner and universal Peace.
It is poetry that recognizes the miracles of ‘Life’.
It evokes love, endurance, reflection and contemplation in its progression from darkness to light.
Alnoor Rajan Talwar was born in Mombasa, Kenya and moved to Canada in 1989. He has been writing for years, but got more serious about writing poetry in 2002.
His first collection of poetry, ‘Unanswered Questions and Unquestioned Answers’, was published in 2006.
That same year, he was diagnosed with Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis and chose not to take prescription drugs to manage his illness. Instead, he chose the use of natural remedies, change his lifestyle, his diet and to adapt the whole ‘mind, body and spirit’ approach. An account of this is in his second book, ‘I Have Good News and Bad News’. The book talks about his life with MS and how he has had to meet, greet and live with the challenges of life in general while living with a debilitating illness.
Alnoor is also an activist of sorts, writing letters to newspapers, radio stations, and politicians about almost anything that he sees wrong. He even participated in a protest march against the Canadian Government’s Bill to make natural supplements and vitamins available ‘by prescription only’.
He has been an enthusiastic volunteer in the community. He taught religious education to Grade 2 and Grade 9 Ismaili Muslim students, conducted summer English Literacy classes, taught ESL to adults and new immigrants and held weekly story-telling sessions for children aged 3 -10 in Brampton, Ontario.
He has a number of writing projects in progress: He is working on a cookbook series for people with severe food restrictions, a novel, more poetry and a children’s book series. He has written and continues to write plays and also writes two blogs on and off:
He currently makes his home in Nova Scotia, Canada.
