Social Media Report: Imamat Day wishes from Canadian Government Officials marking His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan’s 59 years of Imamat

“I am delighted to mark the 59th anniversary since Prince Karim Aga Khan became the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims, having descended directly from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family).

Canadians appreciate the Aga Khan’s recognition of our country as a model for pluralism around the world. We also take great pride in His Highness’ acceptance of honorary Canadian citizenship.

I know Prime Minister Trudeau and His Highness affirmed those values in their recent meeting.

And next year, as Canadians celebrate our country’s 150th anniversary, we will also celebrate His Highness’ Diamond Jubilee.”

– Honourable Senator Peter Harder, in an address on behalf of the Canadian government, Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat, Ottawa, Canada July 7, 2016
