Toronto, August 24, 2015 – The Aga Khan Museum is proud to announce the launch of its second Performing Arts Season. Between September 26 and December 12, a dozen performances of music and dance, one play, and three films will be showcased in the Museum’s stunning auditorium, giving Toronto audiences the extraordinary opportunity to experience work from Afghanistan, Iran, Azerbaijan, Syria, and Canada. “It is with gratitude and humble pleasure that we welcome audiences back for our second season of Performing Arts at the Aga Khan Museum,” says Amirali Alibhai, Head of Performing Arts. “Once again we present the best of live arts and film from around the world. We’re excited to host such respected international artists as jazz trumpeter/composer Amir ElSaffar, the legendary singer Ustad Eltaf Sarahang from Afghanistan, and Spanish dancer/choreographer Patricia Ibáñez in addition to many local talents, including Toronto’s Human Cargo/Crow’s Theatre, Sheniz Janmohamed, and Roberto Occhipinti.”

Featured: Two Rivers Ensemble with Amir ElSaffar, Monsoon-Music, Kinan Azmeh City Band, Jamey Haddad Jazz Ensemble (including Salar Nader, Michael Ward-Bergeman, Luisito Quitero, Ali Amr, Billy Drewes, Leo Blanco, and Roberto Occhipinti)
Focus on Flamenco (October 2, 3, 4)
Featured artists: Patricia Ibáñez, Abel Harana, Vanesa Aibar, Eduardo Pacheco
Spoken Word Series (October 8, November 5, December 10)
Sheniz Janmohamed and Special Guests invite the public to join a spoken word jam.
To coincide with the upcoming exhibition Abbas Kiarostami: Doors Without Keys (Opening November 21, 2015), a selection of films by the acclaimed Iranian filmmaker, poet, and photographer Abbas Kiarostami will also be screened in the Aga Khan Museum auditorium.
