Communities in rural Mozambique are working together to sow the seeds of change.
In the province of Cabo Delgado, Mozambique – one of the poorest provinces in one of the poorest countries in the world – Aga Khan Foundation Canada and its partners work with community groups to tackle the many challenges that combine to cause poverty in rural areas. This work, supported by the Government of Canada, through the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, underwrites financial stability, health and food security for families in the region, ensuring they have the resources and energy to invest in their future.
Rural areas can be the hardest to reach – and the most in need.
In parts of rural Mozambique, close to two-thirds of the population lives below the poverty line, and almost one in 10 children is severely underweight. Equitable global development means making long-term, sustainable investments in rural areas. By supporting agricultural productivity and local entrepreneurs, communities can have more food to eat and sell, higher incomes and better health.
