The Hamilton Centre for Kidney Research (HCKR) is directly affiliated with the Division of Nephrology located at St. Joseph’s Healthcare. Our mandate is to combine our expertise in basic science research and clinical research so that we can reduce the risk of kidney disease and it’s complications.
Dr. Azim Gangji is an Associate Professor of Medicine and the current Program Director of Nephrology and Transplantation at McMaster University. He is also the chair of the postgraduate medical subspecialties programs and chair of the undergraduate medical subspecialties clerkship programs at McMaster University. Dr. Gangji has a strong interest in medical education and has introduced various innovative programs including introducing a case-based learning program for Internal Medicine Residents. He is the recipient of the prestigious Donald R Wilson/RCPSC award for introducing innovative methods of teaching of CanMEDS roles.
Dr. Gangji is a graduate of the Health Research Methodology program at McMaster and is involved in clinical research with his focus on volume assessment and associated clinical outcomes in patients with chronic kidney disease and those on dialysis, renal transplant recipients and critically ill patients with acute kidney injury. Dr. Gangji’s clinical interest is in the field of kidney transplantation and associated research in evaluating the role of immunosuppressive therapy and renal transplant fibrosis. He currently holds a number of peer and non-peer reviewed grants in association with clinical research and medical education research.
