Mayor Naheed Nenshi becomes the third Canadian Ismaili to be featured in The Hill Times‘ edition of Power & Influence.
Previously, Khalil Shariff, CEO, Aga Khan Foundation Canada and Arif Lalani, Canadian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates have been profiled in the Power & Influence rankings.
Mr. Nenshi, 43, is considered one of Canada’s coolest mayors with an important future in politics. Earlier this year, he became the first recipient of the “World Mayor” prize awarded by the City Mayors Foundation, an international urban affairs think tank.
Mr. Nenshi took the mayor’s office in Calgary’s 2010 election, a campaign that successfully harnessed social media and became known as the “Purple Revolution” for its campaign colour. Mr. Nenshi is close to Defence Minister Jason Kenney, knows Stephen Harper, and may have been seen recently, and/or not so recently, in political sparring matches with former Sun TV personality Ezra Levant.
