Aga Khan University charter enshrined in Tanzanian law | The Ismaili

The Ismaili: 23 February 2015 Dar es Salaam, 23 February 2015 — At a ceremony held at the State House today, His Excellency Dr Jakaya Kikwete, President of Tanzania, presented Mawlana Hazar Imam with the newly granted charter of the Aga Khan University. The occasion marks the first time that a foreign-based institution of higher learning has been recognised under Tanzanian law in this manner.

“It is done so because of the trust and confidence that we have in the Aga Khan University — that the university will contribute to Tanzania’s endeavours to close the human resource gap particularly in the areas of sciences, natural sciences, mathematics and computers,” said President Kikwete, speaking at the State House. “We are proud of that cooperation and I have no doubt in my mind that the Aga Khan University will rise to the expectations of all of us.”
