Pakistan registers decline in tetanus, rise in CKD, diabetes | Daily Times

KARACHI – Fewer people are presently dying from tetanus and diarrheal diseases in Pakistan while incidence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and diabetes is on steady rise, says a comprehensive analysis of disease trend data undertaken by local researchers.

The research and consequent analysis was undertaken by Aga Khan University researchers as part of an international study “Global, regional and national age-sex specific all-cause and cause-specific mortality for 240 causes of death, 1990-2013.

Pakistan registers decline in tetanus, rise in CKD, diabetes

It was found that chronic kidney disease and diabetes took more lives in 2013 than in 1990, with deaths increasing 182 per cent and 175 per cent respectively in Pakistan.

Other leading killers in Pakistan were identified to be ischemic heart disease, stroke, and pneumonia, accounting for 28 per cent of all deaths in 2013.
