Narmin Sayani’s heart sank when she reached to place her cellphone back into her purse Thursday evening and realized she’d left the bag — along with a wallet packed with $600 — on the bus.
The Calgary woman had just gotten off work and became distracted while speaking with a girlfriend on her phone. She feared the money — which she’d withdrawn to buy Christmas presents — along with her credit cards and ID would be gone, even if the purse was recovered.
“I thought, ‘Oh my god, I lost everything,” Sayani said. “I was basically freaking out.”
That same evening, several hours after reporting her belongings missing, Sayani received a call from Calgary Transit inspector Nisar Ahmad reporting that the purse, and all its contents, had been found, much to her relief.
It was one of two wallets Ahmad had been able to recover that night, both with the cards and cash untouched, which isn’t always the case.
In his 6 1/2 years on the job, he has recovered many a lost wallet — only to discover it’s been cleaned out.
