The body of the founder of Fairway Hotel and former Member of Parliament in Obote I government, Sherali Bandali Jaffer, will be flown into the country over the weekend.
According to close family sources, the body will be transported from Vancouver, Canada, where he died last week and arrives at Entebbe Airport tomorrow, ahead of burial early next week.
Rose Birungi, a close friend of the Bandali family, said preparations were in their final stages to have the body flown back.
“The body will be flown back through Amsterdam en route to Uganda,” Birungi said.
Bandali Jaffer, 90, died on December 27 in Canada, where the family had moved to and settled after being expelled in 1972 by then Uganda president Idi Amin.
Bandali Jaffer, who succumbed to a long illness, had expressed his desire that he be buried in Uganda.
An Ismaili – belonging to the Shia branch of Islam –, Jaffar will be buried in the Kololo cemetery.
