Exuberant architectural decorations embellish exterior and interior surfaces of the mosque.
In essence these are of two kinds – exterior surface decorations which are chiefly in the form of glazed ceramic tile murals; and interior decorations in the form of naqqashi wall painting – a semi-dry form of fresco.
Both these forms of embellishment have integral calligraphic components drawing on the Quran and the Hadith.
