Shiraz & Shams Hajee: Ismaili couple from New Zealand presented with “Excellence In Retail Business” Award by Prime Minister John Key.Shiraz Hajee and his wife Shams Shiraz, Co-owners of Jesters Pies Mt. Wellington, Auckland were presented the accolade of “Excellence In Retail Business” by Hon. Prime Minister, Mr. John Key on Monday 24th November 2014 in a Gala BNZ Indian Business Award Nite held in The Sky City Convention Centre Auckland. More than 900 businesspersons, professionals and others from across the manufacturing, trade, retailing, consulting and other sectors of the country came together to celebrate the success of Indian businesses.

The franchised store was nominated for the awards by Jesters New Zealand the brand.

The IBA Panel of judges are independent of the organiser/sponsor. The Panel comprises ten eminent personalities, each with a proven record in their profession and with experience in assessing business performance. Jesters Mt. Wellington was selected as finalist in the “Excellence In Retail Business” as well as the “Best Small Business Category” The selection process is very robust and takes nearly three months for the judges to evaluate and narrow the list down to four finalists in each of the 12 categories. The judges visit the business first with a prior appointment and later they come in during various occasions as mystery customers at any odd time of the day.

Judges Comments

The Judges recognised that “Jesters Mt. Wellington Director (Shiraz Hajee) is well motivated, plans meticulously, and records and monitors all processes. The Company’s 30% growth comes from expanding using well-equipped vans and it is exploring further innovative plans for expansion.”

Shiraz has always been very switched on, earlier in 2006 at the Westpac Franchise awards he had not only bagged the “Westpac Food and Beverage award “bur also the “Westpac Supreme Franchisee of The Year” award. These were presented to him by the then Minister for Small Business, the Hon Lianne Dalziel MP.
