KARACHI: Need for genuine “introspection” among the country’s medical community, engaged in clinical trials, vis-à-vis their ethical responsibilities towards unassuming people (subjects) and society was largely felt during a seminar organised by Aga Khan University.
Participants mainly comprising healthcare providers and medical researchers at the very onset of the symposium “Clinical Trials in Pakistan – Bridging Gaps and Building Networks”, agreed need to focus and promote more academic aspects with adequate caution towards the commercial aspect of these trials.
Dr Greg Moran, AKU provost, Salman Burney, vice president and managing director, GlaxoSmithKline, Pakistan, Dr Farhat Abbas, dean of AKU Medical College, Dr Herbert Kim Lyerly, prof of surgery, Duke University, and Prof Saeed Hamid, chairman of Medicine Department AKU were the panellists of the session on “Setting the Stage” held on the occasion.
