Update: Body of Zeenab Kassam heading home to Calgary
Family members of Zeenab Kassam, the Calgary nurse who was one of nine people killed in an attack at a hotel restaurant in Kabul, have been told the process of returning the body of the 57-year-old to Canadian soil is underway.
The family issued the following statement on Saturday afternoon:
The Kassam family has been informed that the body of Zeenab Kassam has been secured in Kabul, Afghanistan, and will be repatriated to Canada by mid-week.
Once the body arrives in Calgary, the family will be available to make a statement on the inspiring and amazing story of her life. Meanwhile, the family is deeply grateful for the many expressions of sympathy from the public. The family also thanks the news media for respecting their request for privacy.
The family in due course will share full details on the work that Zeenab in Afghanistan.
