Aga Khan Hospital bags top award - 'Centre Of Excellence' for AKU's Ultrasound DepartmentThe Aga Khan University’s ultrasound department has been granted “centre of excellence” status by the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology.

The hospital becomes a regional centre for training sonographers to standards approved by the world body.

The award was received by Dr Sudhir Vinayak, the chairman of radiology at Aga Khan University Hospital and the chairman of the Kenya Society for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology on behalf of the Hospital.

This was during an international conference hosted at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi.

Dr Hassen Gharbi, the president of the ultrasound world federation, said the certification was only given to ultrasound hospitals that regularly meet the highest level of quality in clinical service.

Ms Asmita Gilani, the hospital’s chief executive said: “It speaks volumes of the efforts Aga Khan University Hospital has made to become a centre of excellence in this region. This award is the icing on the cake.”
