The tragedy that occurred at the 2013 Boston Marathon spurred a wave of solidarity with the people of Boston and renewed public commitment to defusing the causes of extremism. For us, running 26.2 miles through Boston’s streets is a chance to embody that commitment. The Aga Khan Foundation U.S.A. is proud to be participating in this year’s marathon.
Poverty and ignorance are key sources of instability, conflict, and even violence, in the world. The Aga Khan Foundation is a private, international, non-denominational development organization that addresses those causes. As an organization inspired by Islamic principles of pluralism, compassion and human dignity, the Foundation works to strengthen the fabric of civil society, often in places where it has been torn by conflict. We work to end global poverty by focusing on the common good of all citizens, regardless of their gender, origin or religion.
The Aga Khan Foundation U.S.A. is part of the Aga Khan Development Network, a global network focused on alleviating poverty in Africa and Asia. Through its work in the United States, the Foundation engages Americans locally about development issues abroad and our global interdependence.
