Sahar is currently a senior in high school at Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, IL a suburb of Chicago. She is being recruited by many institutions for debate such as Emory, Berkeley, Michigan, and Wake Forest University. Sahar wants to use her debate skills to pursue a career in law.
Achievements: Tournament of Champions Qualifier, Georgetown National Debate Tournament 3rd Place, Dowling Catholic National Debate Tournament 3rd Place and 10th best speaker, New Trier National Debate Tournament 5th Place Winner, Great Midwestern National Debate Tournament 5th Place, 1st Year Debate Championships 5th place and 8th Best Speaker, University of Michigan National Debate Tournament 3rd Place, and Iowa Caucus National Debate Tournament 5th Place and Best Speaker Award.
Sahar Merchant’s community work includes tutoring novice debaters and spend many weekend judging at novice tournaments. Her school also donates a lot of money to Urban Debate League which is an organization to help intercity schools to get funds to debate since the activity can get very expensive. Every year the team also hosts a family for Christmas and they do school sponsored events like making Crepes for all the teachers.
