Azeem Merchant awarded Mendaki and SINDA Excellence Award 2013 for Being Second Highest Scorer in the whole of Singapore for Primary School Leaving Exam (PSLE)

Azeem is the first Ismaili in Singapore to have received the Anugerah Mendaki for being the top Malay/Muslim student as well as Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA) Excellence Award for being the top Indian student for 2012 Primary School Leaving Exam. A total of 46 000 students took the exam last year in Singapore and Azeem ranked number 2 with a score of 284/300 and the highest score in Singapore was 285/300. SINDA

Azeem received the Anugerah Mendaki Award at a ceremony on Sat 7 September 2013 and the award was presented to him by the Acting Minister of Manpower, Mr Tan Chuan Jin. The Minister for Communication & Information, Dr YAACOB Ibrahim, was in attendance at the ceremony.

Azeem also received the SINDA Excellence Award at a ceremony on Sat 14 September 2013 and the award was presented to him by Miss Indranee Rajah, Senior Minister for State (Education). The Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Tharman SHANMUGARATNAM, was in attendance at the ceremony.

The family was interviewed along with Azeem by a local newspaper on Sun 15 Sep 2013.
