Hyderabad, Sep 19: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.Kiran Kumar Reddy will inaugurate the Aga Khan Academy, first in India, here tomorrow in the presence of the Founder and Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), Prince Aga Khan, the spiritual head of the Ismaili Muslims. The academy, which is already running since 2011, would be formally inaugurated in the presence of Union Minister of Human Resources, Dr M M Pallam Raju. The not-for profit academy in Hyderabad, which is part of the global chain, is the second one to come up after Mombasa in Kenya.
The third academy out of the 18 planned in Africa, Middle East, Central and South Asia has just started in Maputo, Mozambique. The academy was offered 100 acres of land on-free near the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here by the Andhra Pradesh Government during Dr YSR regime. The foundation stone too was laid during his (YSR) regime. The academy, which follows International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, has a strong scholarship programme where nearly 50 per cent of the students get scholarships and currently the strength of the academy was over 300 students .
