Tajikistan resumes Khorog development – With the hosting of The First International Economic Forum and various infrastructure projects, officials hope to display the Pamir region’s business potential.

KHOROG, Tajikistan – One year after clashes between government troops and militants in Khorog, the city will host “The Investment Possibilities of Pamir Development” (The First International Economic Forum) August 30-31, which organisers predict will help bring more foreign investment to the region.

Though last year’s July unrest caused about 2.2m TJS (US $460,000) in economic losses, the area’s development ambitions are proving resilient, officials and residents say, adding that already Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast’s infrastructure and economy are bouncing back.

Forum expectations – The Ishkashim Free Economic Zone of Tajikistan (IFEZT) is organising the forum in co-operation with government agencies and international organisations, including the OSCE, Aga Khan Foundation and the UNDP. The event will explore the prospects for boosting foreign investment to finance additional Pamir region development.
