Tajdin Abdullah Allarakhia, age 96 - Father of Nina Jaffer, Editor Amaana.org - passed away on July 11, 2013Amaana.org is one of the oldest running Ismaili website on the Internet. Nina Jaffer has been diligently keeping it up for many years. Her Dad recently passed away to the next eternal life (May his Soul rest in Eternal Peace). Below is an obituary/introduction of a man who lived a distinguished life.

My father who was born in Zanzibar, passed peacefully in his sleep in Los Angeles on July 11, 2013, at age 96. He was a self taught man, who gave his Cambridge exams at the same time as my sister and even though he was a successful businessman running a shop in Eldoret, he still pursued his education looking after eight children with my Mom, another elevated and gifted soul who is now 89. He also studied to become an optician and a lawyer and when we moved to Dar es Salaam, he worked as an attorney in Mata Salamat building and the owners offered him a partnership in the law practice but his goods had arrived from Eldoret and he set up his shop Deen’s the small profit shop on India Street near Remco and soon became very popular as he gave good value for money and taught us that the customer is always right and his slogan was “satisfaction guaranteed”.

It was his wish that we not mourn on his death day but to have a Khushiali (rejoicing)

  1. Indeed a role model for the preent generator. Education at any age, as long as you are mentally and physically fit, is always relevant. May his soul rest in eternal peace

  2. Hi Nina,
I read the note on your Dad and when I saw our shop Remco mentioned along with Deens, a flood of memories entered my mind and I was transported to Dar for a while. May his soul rest eternal Peace. Ameen.

    1. Nargis, it is amazing that your Dad like mine also passed on Imamat Day! Two patriarches who built strong families of faith are now united in heaven. This July 11 another member of the Old Guard, Nasir Gilani’s Dad in Nakuru also passed and he was also 96! We have to continue their legacy Inshallah!

        1. Hi Shiraz, yes, Sitara and Sadru are my siblings and are in Los Angeles. Are you Rozmin’s brother? If so, then I remember you! We used to go on picnics to places all around Eldoret and would have great food cooked by our Moms on location. If you are not the same Shilo, then please let me know about your family, what shop you had, etc. Thank you so much about your sentiments for my Dad. Please email me at info at amaana.org (replace at with @ and remove spaces) and we can relive old memories. Thanks.

  3. Sorry to hear about your dad. Though l did not know him but my parents talked about him when they were alive. My brother is still in Eldoret and still deals with spares. If Nurani rings the bell.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
    Ameen.
