Metro high school scientist sheds light on HIV/AIDS

Dr. Charles Best secondary student Selin Jessa has spent her last year of high school tackling some tough questions.

Sure, there are the regular Grade 12 concerns — which universities to apply to, which scholarships to shoot for — but Jessa has also spent the majority of the year trying to solve a scientific puzzle with global implications.

Since October, the 17-year-old Coquitlam resident has been working alongside researchers at Simon Fraser University on a project that could one day help create a vaccine for HIV/AIDS.
