A new biotech firm set up by four ex-Pfizer researchers has received a multi-million pound cash boost just months after launching.
Canterbury-based Ziarco, which specialises in research for anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy medicines, announced a £3.8 million research deal with Pfizer Venture Investments and US group Biotechnology Value Fund LP.
President and chief executive of Ziarco Dr Mike Yeadon, who was former vice president and chief scientific officer of Pfizer’s alert and respiratory research unit, founded the new company with three other ex-Pfizer employees; Steve Liu, who will serve as chief scientist, Lynn Purkins, who leads clinical development, and Arif Shivji, head of business development and development operations.
