Don Cherry. Ron MacLean. Elliotte Friedman. “Wow, you’re so lucky that job must be glamorous.” Lucky, yes. Glamorous…hardly. This past year, I was a Program Assistant for Hockey Night In Canada which is a fancy way of saying I was a shotlister.
Picture this: It’s Saturday night and CBC is live as the Leafs are hosting the Canadiens. Meanwhile, I’ve got my headphones on, two computer screens in front of me, surrounded by televisions showing games from around the league, but all I’m watching are the Islanders and Hurricanes doing battle in Carolina (starting to get the unglamorous part?). That’s the game I was assigned to, so to me, I’m invested like it’s the Stanley Cup Final.

Too cool! Brings back memories from 40 years ago listening to Howie Meeker’s squeaky voice get even more squeaky as coaches like Don Cherry would pull some shenanigans.
