Calgary brothers Rameez and Ali Virji make list of Top 20 Under 20 leaders

CALGARY — Calgary brothers Rameez and Ali Virji own and operate a software company, have created major inventions, and have yet to celebrate their 20th birthdays.

And now, they have another recognition to add to their already lengthy resumes: top 20 under 20 leaders.

The prestigious award — handed out annually by Youth in Motion to Canada’s top young leaders — has never before been awarded to siblings in the same year, said Tina Sweeney, director of development and communications at Youth In Motion.

“To be chosen as one of the top 20 under 20 is extremely significant. The fact that two brothers within one family have become recipients is just extraordinary,” she said.

Nineteen-year-old Rameez achieved the award for his accomplishments with a software company he founded at age 13 and for his work co-inventing the world’s first vaccine pill. His younger brother, 16-year-old Ali, received the award for developing a belt, equipped with sensors, for visually impaired people.
