But pull back the curtain on a Hockey Night in Canada broadcast and you see how much work goes into putting that picture on your T.V. screen, Graeme Nichols writes.
One of the few people in the building without a rooting interest is Hockey Night in Canada senior producer Sherali Najak, who is taking in the game in a trailer parked at the arena’s loading docks. He doesn’t have time.
“I always want Canadian teams to do well but if you end up turning into a fan while you’re producing the game,” Najak explained, “You will miss the details and the storytelling aspects of the game.”
-snip- Najak included. His ascent to the role of senior producer requires some storytelling of its own. Like thousands of other Ismaili Muslims in the 1970’s, a three-year-old Najak, his parents and seven other siblings were driven from Uganda by former dictator Idi Amin.
