Many British Asians are amongst an influential list of people who have been honoured in the New Year’s Queen’s Honours list.
Honours’ lists are published twice a year at New Year and in mid-June on the date of the Queen’s official birthday. Anybody can be nominated for an honour, but only exceptional people receive one. Those honored work in a wide range of fields including sports, education, medical research, heritage, and local arts and sports projects.
This year some 828 candidates have been selected at MBE and OBE level, 587 at MBE and 241 at OBE while there are 420 successful women candidates on the list, representing 43 percent of the total. Women candidates include 1 GBE, 7 Dames, 27 CBEs and 3 CBs. 12 per cent of the successful candidates come from ethnic minority communities.

Trustee and Treasurer of Local Investment Fund (LIF), the UK’s premier community development financial institution. LIF was set up by the UK Government and the private sector to fill the funding gap often experienced by social enterprise.
Amin has held various leadership roles within the Ismaili Muslim community. He is a past Chairman of His Highness Prince Aga Khan’s Grants and Review Board, responsible for oversight over a number of the social governance institutions for the Ismaili Muslim community (1990 – 1996).
