At the tender age of 17, Ali Kurji embarked on a daunting journey – one which would change his life forever.
Leaving behind his family in Uganda, he arrived alone in the UK to fulfill his parents’ dream of gaining an education and becoming an accountant.
An aspiration he fulfilled and went on to launch his remarkable career – which last month saw him recognised as one of the top Asian business leaders in the UK.
Ali, who is the chief executive of the Heart of England Co-operative Society, was one of four businessmen shortlisted from 500 entries nationally, for the Platinum Award for the Business Person of the Year.
“I am delighted to have made it on to the shortlist,” said Ali. “The awards bring together some of the UK’s most talented businessmen and women and to be highlighted among one of the final four in the Business Person of the Year category was really quite a tremendous honour.”
