Sadru Jetha insists the absence of a photo and biographical information in his debut book of short stories, Nuri Does Not Exist, was not done for thematic purposes.
In fact, the Calgary author says he was as surprised as anyone that the obligatory author photo and short bio doesn’t appear in the book.
It is apparently the curious policy of his publisher, Vancouver’s Talonbooks, to not include such things in its publications.
Still, given that the book is called Nuri Does Not Exist (Talonbooks, 151 Pages, $16.95) and it’s a group of related, autobiographical stories that often deal with the loss of identity, it’s not too far of a stretch to think that keeping the author under wraps may have made for an intriguing literary gimmick.
