More than 7,000 people flock to Stanley Park to raise vital funds in the World Partnership Walk
While adults limbered up for their five-kilometre hike around the park, a large contingent of small fry frolicked in the sunshine on the lawn in front of Lumbermen’s Arch.
“The kids are learning about Canadian values,” said walk convener Karim Salemohamed.
“Canada has always been a nation that cares about the world. I was inspired to come here and raise funds and raise awareness.
“We’re hoping these kids will grow up and take over that vision. Being a citizen of the world is really important,” he said.
“In the poorest countries, it’s the moms and the children that are the most vulnerable,” he added.
“When [Canadian children] see that, they realize, ‘Hey, I’ve got something better here and need to go out there and make it better for somebody else.’
“We’re making them proud about what they can accomplish here,” said Salemohamed.
