Prayerful Places: Large, Small and Personal – The Ismaili Jamatkhana, Burnaby

Prayerful Places: Large, Small and Personal

OCCASIONALLY, like a force greater than nature, someone sweeps into my life with such enthusiasm that I feel scooped up temporarily into theirs, and happily roll along for the ride. In our very first phone conversation, Naz Rayani, in his irresistable, warmly engaging way, wasted no time inviting me to join his next group tour to the Ismaili Jamatkhana in Burnaby, B.C. I’d never heard of a Jamatkhana (“meeting house”), but I love visiting spiritual centres of any kind. Plus, I had already been “nazzed”, the term of endearment coined by those who have realized that, whenever Naz asks you to do something, to volunteer for the World Partnership Walk or to join him on an ecumenical adventure, it’s impossible to say “No”. So, of course, I said “Yes.”
