Salima Samnani obtained her undergraduate degree in Communications at Simon Fraser University before completing her law degree at the University of Victoria. She received her Master of Laws in Cross-cultural Business Practices at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) in 2010, graduating at the top of her class and receiving honors in a number of international moot competitions. Her master’s thesis, prepared for use by the World Trade Organization and the Aga Khan Agency for Microfinance, suggested a new paradigm of banking regulations to regulate the microfinance industry.
Ms. Samnani articled at a major Vancouver law firm, focusing on bankruptcy and insolvency law, before joining the B.C. Ministry of the Attorney General in Victoria as a Criminal Prosecutor. In this position, Ms. Samnani handled a range of criminal cases including drinking and driving offences, fraud, and assault while gaining valuable experience making complex Charter arguments.
