This March, the 3000-year-old Iranian cultural festival of Nowrūz (and its local variations) will be celebrated in countries around the world, including Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Albania, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Kosovo, Turkey, India, Armenia, Pakistan, and Bosnia. The festival is also an auspicious occasion for the Zoroastrians, Sufis, Ismailis and the Bahá’ís who claim to have Iranian roots.
Celebrated by 300 million people worldwide, Nowrūzmarks the first day of spring and a new year, signifying the renewal of hope, friendships, and life in general. Last year, the United Nations General Assembly recognized March 21 (spring equinox in the northern hemisphere) as the International Day of Nowrūz.
