Riyaz and Azmina Virani on school choice

Riyaz and Azmina Virani like Alberta’s public schools. But they like at least two of its private schools more.

“The Alberta public education system is a very strong and vibrant system. It’s produced many bright, talented graduates,” Riyaz says.

“But we were drawn to the independent system first, as we had an interest and desire to pursue a Montessori-based education, and at that time in the public system, the Montessori stream wasn’t well-developed.”

Riyaz spent part of his childhood in England, where he attended a Montessori school. He remains a strong believer in its child-directed approach to learning.
