Canada, together with the U.K., World Bank and UNICEF, is seeking to recover as much as $2 million in Canadian aid that was donated for textbooks and the schooling of poor children in Kenya.
Officials now say the funds have gone astray due to “mismanagement, corruption and weak internal controls” in Kenya’s Ministry of Education.
The parties are calling for the reimbursement of tens of millions in foreign education aid and the prosecution of officials accused of being involved with $100 million in lost funds from the Education Ministry. Canada’s share of the money is estimated at between $1 million and $2 million.
