Aga Khan Award for Architecture won by Five Projects

The richest prize in architecture will be shared between five schemes

The $500,000 Aga Khan Award for Architecture will be shared by five diverse projects, ranging from an innovative school in China to the restoration of wetlands in Saudi Arabia in a project involving British engineer Buro Happold.

The winners will be presented with their cheques tonight at Qatar’s Museum of Islamic Art by the Aga Khan himself. The spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims established the award in 1977 to recognise architectural excellence that addresses the needs of societies in which Muslims have a presence.
