The Institute of Ismaili Studies - In Memory of Professor Mohammed ArkounProfessor Mohammed Arkoun, one of the most prominent and influential figures in Islamic Studies, passed away in Paris on 14 September 2010 at the age of 82 years. Professor Arkoun was Senior Research Fellow in the IIS’ Department of Academic Research and Publications and Member of the Board of Governors.

  1. I am deeply grieved to learn of the sad demise of Prof. Arkoun. He was a giant of man and his contributions towards understanding of Islam is substantioal. Great loss to the IIS as well as to most of his admirers. He will be greatly missed.
