Mahsa Hedayati

Two Dimensions of a Journey to Tajikistan

This photo exhibit aims to present images taken by an Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) Canada Development Fellow working in Tajikistan during the past year.

Mahsa Hedayati traveled to Tajikistan following the completion of her studies in International Affairs. By directly working with local communities, Mahsa wanted to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of both the gaps and strengths in contemporary international development policy. What she discovered is that the Tajiks possessed their own, unique, understandings of development as a result of their country’s natural environment, history, and culture. In this way, Mahsa experienced a region marked by a combination of poverty and locally defined conceptions of development, with both forces deeply entrenched within the daily lives and landscapes of this marvelous and mysterious Central Asian country.
