Annual World Partnership Walk Taking Place This Sunday

9:00 a.m. Registration begins
11:00 a.m. Opening Ceremonies
11:30 a.m. Start of Walk (5K)
1:00p.m. Post-Walk lunch, displays and entertainment featuring Ottawa’s Three Times Lucky.

PRESS KIT PICK-UP: From 10.00 a.m. onward, come to the media desk to get a kit as well as Walk Day information and assistance.

THE EVENT: On Sunday, June 13th, 2010, residents of Ottawa will join Canadians in cities across Canada in the World Partnership Walk, an event to increase awareness and raise funds to help fight global poverty.

The Walk is an initiative of Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) and its national network of volunteers. AKFC is a not-for-profit development agency that supports sustainable and cost-effective development in the poorest countries, the Walk brings together Canadians from every background to support and learn about programs that help individuals and communities in Asia and Africa rise from poverty. All of the funds raised by the Walk (100%) go to international development initiatives. Administrative costs are covered separately.

The Walk is expected to involve more than 70,000 participants in ten cities: Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Kitchener-Waterloo, London, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Victoria.
