A reception to meet the speaker follows the lecture. This program is free and open to the public.
Dr. Francesca Leoni, Assistant Curator of the Arts of the Islamic World at the MFAH, will introduce the audience to the beauty and sophistication of the Islamic Art tradition. She will discuss what Islamic art is; what its main characteristics and forms are; and when and where it developed. At the end of the presentation, Dr. Leoni will also give an overview of the exhibition “Light of the Sufis: The Mystical Arts of Islam.” The exhibition is on view at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston through Sunday, August 8, 2010.
