Recent medical studies have confirmed that a brisk daily walk can lower blood pressure, help maintain a healthy weight and improve your mood.
Some walks, though, can do wonders not just for your personal health, but for the world. The World Partnership Walk, which takes place in Vancouver and eight other Canadian cities on May 30, is one such attempt.
The walk began, like every journey, with a single step taken by a group of women from East Africa, who wanted to give back to the impoverished countries from which they came.
“I was lucky, coming to Vancouver,” said Izzat Manji, who came to Canada from Tanzania with her husband and son in 1973. “I was a high school teacher, I could speak English and French, and when I got here, I got a job right away.
