Roshan Social Programs (Roshan Telecom – Afghanistan)

Roshan Social Programs is the Corporate Social Responsibility department of Telecom Development Company Afghanistan trading as Roshan. This department engages in a variety of social programs that utilize the company’s expertise in technology, employee skill base and its market power to independently and in partnership with Profit and Not-for-Profit institutions to further the humanitarian efforts in Afghanistan. Apart from contributing to the development of infrastructure, job creation, stimulation of the economy and through providing communication enabling the reconstruction effort, Roshan sets aside an annual budget for social programs. Roshan Social Programs operates its social programs using this budget, funds raised through fundraising efforts and funds received from grants and awards.

Roshan is 51% owned by the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED), which is an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. The Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) is an international development agency dedicated to promoting entrepreneurship and building economically sound enterprises in the developing world. AKFED focuses on building enterprises in parts of the world that lack sufficient foreign direct investment. Roshan exemplifies AKFED’s values and aims to improve the lives of populations in need while helping respond to social, economic and cultural change.
